Because their sacrifice deserves recognition—not silence.
Green Star Families of America is a veteran-led nonprofit fighting for federal recognition of the Green Star Service Banner—a national symbol to honor the families of veterans who died by suicide. These families deserve dignity, remembrance, and a place in our nation’s story.

Honoring the Families of Veterans Lost to Suicide
Green Star Families of America is a veteran-founded nonprofit dedicated to honoring the families of veterans who have died by suicide.
Every day, 22 veterans are lost—and the families they leave behind are often left to grieve in silence, without recognition or support.
We’re here to change that.
Our mission is to bring dignity, connection, and national recognition to these families through the creation of the Green Star Service Banner—a proposed symbol honoring their unique sacrifice.
We’re working toward formal congressional recognition so these families can be acknowledged just like Gold and Blue Star families.
Together, we can raise the Green Star—and make sure no family grieves unseen.

Testimonials

Daniel was a protector in every sense of the word. He served his country honorably in the United States Army for 10 years as a Military Police Officer. Daniel served a 15-month deployment during Operation Iraqi Freedom, but his service didn’t stop when he took off the uniform. He protected his family, his coworkers, and even strangers with the same fierce love and loyalty he showed his brothers-in-arms.

My name is Samantha Bassett, and I am a Green Star widow. My late husband, Mitchell Allen Bassett Jr., served honorably in the United States Marine Corps from 2007 to 2014. In 2012, while deployed in Afghanistan, he sustained injuries that ultimately led to his transition to the Wounded Warrior Battalion. He was medically retired in 2014 due to permanent physical disabilities.
