Richard Cassey
COO & VP of Board
Richard Cassey brings more than three decades of disciplined leadership, operational planning, and community service to Green Star Families of America.
A Veteran with 33 years of combined military service, Richard served in the U.S. Navy, U.S. Army, and National Guard, including 20 years on Active Duty. Over the course of his career, he spent more than 15 years planning and overseeing military operations in training, emergency, and tactical environments. His work required close coordination with civilian
emergency services, Department of Defense partners, and international agencies, ensuring unified and effective responses in complex situations. He also served as a Battalion Emergency Operations Coordinator supporting three counties, helping bridge military and civilian emergency response efforts.
Richard continues his service to Veterans through the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), where he previously held leadership roles including Post Surgeon, Junior Vice Commander, Senior Vice Commander, and Post Commander. He now serves as the VFW Legislative Representative for Pennsylvania, advocating at the state and national level on issues impacting Veterans and their families. His work focuses on policy awareness, legislative engagement, and ensuring Veterans’ voices are represented where decisions are made.
Throughout his VFW service, Richard has led and supported charitable initiatives benefiting Veterans and their families, including fundraising efforts that provided service dogs to eligible Veterans and direct assistance to families caring for children with disabilities.
Beyond military and Veteran advocacy, Richard has dedicated more than 15 years to youth development through ice hockey, serving as a coach, Director of Coaching, and Vice President for Coaching Education, mentoring young athletes and developing leadership at the grassroots level.
Richard’s career reflects a consistent commitment to service, accountability, and advocacy. At Green Star Families of America, he brings seasoned operational leadership and legislative awareness to advance the mission of honoring Families of Veterans lost to suicide and strengthening national recognition and support.
